Lady Death Demonicron Co-op
Two pads, one couch, no online queue.
Lady Death Demonicron sells itself as a 15-level co-op hack and slash. Steam’s store flags are specific: Multi-player, Co-op, Shared/Split Screen Co-op, Shared/Split Screen. That combination means a second player on the same machine, not a Steam invite across the internet. If you came here looking for online matchmaking, stop and plan a couch night instead.
Who plays whom
Lady Death is the default high-move fighter: scythe throw, reveal detonation, levitate, six sword states. Ravenheart is the haunted swordsman with a heavier blade and the touch of death. Kickstarter text says they can recruit more allies later. Those recruits are not extra online seats.
Until the retail character select is public, assume Player 1 is Lady Death and Player 2 is Ravenheart. If the shipping build lets you swap, the same jobs still apply: one player owns crowd specials, the other owns the heavy lane.
Hardware
Two controllers. Steam recommends a gamepad even for solo. Controls are fighting-game motions; a keyboard plus a pad is a worse idea than two pads. DualSense, DualShock, and Xbox layouts are all listed on Steam. Sit so both D-pads are usable. Analog sticks are for walking, not for quarter-circles.
Split-screen shrinks the HUD: portraits, life numbers, blue meters, enemy nameplates. Agree before the stage who calls targets. Razorbacks on the left belong to one player; Riot Guards on the right belong to the other.
Pickup etiquette
Special swords are scarce. The flaming blade is one of six states. If both of you grab every drop, you will both sit on mediocre steel. A simple rule:
- Lady Death takes scythe-adjacent and crowd-clear pickups.
- Ravenheart takes raw damage blades.
- Nobody touches a pickup the partner is already walking toward.
Health and meter pickups should go to whoever is about to drop a life. Infinite health from the cheat sheet is a solo practice tool. Using it in co-op still disables trophies for that boot, which is rude if your partner is hunting a Platinum.
How to actually win a stage together
Do not both dump meter into the same Razorback. Overkills credit the player who lands the special. Stacking two screen-takeovers on one brute wastes the combat layer. Call “mine” on elites.
Jump kick still matters. If your partner knocks a Crawler down, you can jump kick it, but stealing corpses in front of their camera is how couch fights start. Clear your own grounded bodies first.
Bosses that ignored pokes in the demo still want committed strings. One player should bait hops; the other should spend meter. If both of you poke, the boss hops forever.
What co-op is not
- Not online.
- Not four-player.
- Not a drop-in Steam Remote Play promise we can verify from the store page (if Art of Play enables Remote Play Later, we will note it on updates).
- Not a way to skip learning motions. Player 2 still needs the D-pad.
Demo versus retail
Some demo slices were Lady Death only. If a second pad does nothing in June’s build, you are in a solo slice. Retail marketing has always included Ravenheart. Wait for 31 August 2026 before you write co-op off.
Switch digital lands 11 September 2026. Handheld split-screen will be cramped; dock it. Physical Switch and PS5 copies that ship from November 2026 are the living-room versions of this mode.
Practice plan
Run the cemetery gate from getting started twice: once solo, once split. Compare grades. If co-op grade is worse, you are stealing pickups or double-Overkilling. Then take the dinosaur biome from the walkthrough and assign anti-air to Lady Death only.
Co-op is the pitch. Local is the constraint. Bring a second pad or play solo — there is no third option on the Steam flags.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for launch week, the Steam demo, and co-op nights.
Is Lady Death Demonicron remote multiplayer?
No. Steam lists shared/split-screen co-op. You need two players in the same room.
Who is player two?
Ravenheart is the marketed partner. Extra allies were described as story recruits.
Do we share lives?
HUD portraits show per-player life numbers in screenshots. Play as if each of you can drop independently until a patch says otherwise.
Can we use cheats in co-op?
Technically yes if the sheet is on that boot, but trophies disable. Restart for a clean run. See how to enter codes.
