Lady Death Demonicron Controls

The D-pad is not optional. Specials live there.

Controls

Lady Death Demonicron plays like a 1990s arcade cabinet that went to fighting-school. If you treat it like a modern mash brawler, specials will not come out and grounded enemies will ignore you. This page is the input layer. Move lists and Overkill value live in the combat guide.

Official position on devices

Steam lists full controller support, DualShock support, DualSense support, and a gamepad-recommended flag. In August 2025 the official page told backers the Level 1 demo had no keyboard controls. Grab a pad. If retail Steam later ships a key map, we will add it here; until then, do not plan a laptop-only session without a USB controller.

Art of Play published two combat-card PDFs for backers:

  • Xbox layout combat card
  • PlayStation 4/5 layout combat card

Those cards are the closest thing to an in-game tutorial. Demo players on Steam said they found the combat guide only after finishing the demo. Print the card or keep this page open on a phone.

What every pad needs to do

Public footage and reviewer hands-on agree on this baseline:

ActionWhat it is for
MovementWalk the lane; no auto-run
Punch / lightStarter for sword strings
Kick / heavyAnti-air and jump-kick grounded bodies
JumpHop traps, juggle, jump kick
BlockHold versus hop-in elites
Taunt / extra face buttonSome builds mapped a taunt; one reviewer thought it was a pickup until it snapped
D-pad sequencesSpecials, scythe paths, throw-style inputs

Reviewer The Sexy Beat ‘em Up… footage (embedded on the combat page) shows a tackle, a sidekick, a block that actually stuffed a hit, a jump, and a motion-input projectile they compared to a Hadoken. They also found a heal. That is a fighting-game grammar sitting on a beat-em-up walk cycle.

D-pad versus analog

The studio joked that thumbs would get a workout. Quarter-circles and dragon-punch-style motions are easier on a D-pad than on a loose analog stick. If your Xbox pad has a clicky D-pad, use it for specials and leave the stick for walking. PlayStation players should do the same on the digital pad.

Missed specials are usually one of three things:

  1. The blue meter is empty. Check the HUD under the portrait.
  2. You rolled the analog stick and the game read a walk.
  3. You started the motion while already in hitstun.

Infinite power from the cheat codes list is the practice tool if your edition includes the sheet. It still disables trophies until you restart — see how to enter codes.

Jump kick is a control, not a tech video

Demo impressions hammer this: enemies on the ground are hard to hit unless you jump and kick. Map jump and kick so both are reachable without a grip change. If kick sits on a shoulder and jump on a face button, you will drop the anti-ground tool in crowds. Rebind if the retail options menu allows it; if not, hold the pad so the right thumb can hit both.

Co-op pads

Split-screen co-op needs two controllers. Steam’s shared/split-screen categories imply both players are local. Do not expect to invite a Steam friend remotely. P1 should be Lady Death unless the retail select screen says otherwise; P2 takes Ravenheart.

Accessibility and speed cheats

Extra speed (Street Fighter Alpha style) is a cheat, not a settings slider. If the retail options include a speed toggle we will document it; until then, only the codes hub lists that boost. A slower walk is the default for learning getting started routes.

Platform notes

  • Steam: controller first. Verify Big Picture sees the pad before you launch the demo.
  • PlayStation: DualSense is listed. Physical PS5 discs ship from November 2026; digital is 31 August 2026.
  • Xbox: Xbox pad is the layout the combat card was drawn for.
  • Switch: digital 11 September 2026. Expect the same motions on the D-pad; handheld analog is the worst place to learn quarter-circles.

If a special still will not come out after you have meter, you are not failing a secret code. You are missing the motion. Slow down, use the D-pad, and watch Billy Deakin’s Level 1 playthrough on the getting started page for the rhythm of her strings.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for launch week, the Steam demo, and co-op nights.

Does Lady Death Demonicron support keyboard?

Early demos did not. Steam recommends a gamepad. Check the retail options on 31 August 2026; until then, bring a controller.

Where is the official control card?

Art of Play sent Xbox and PlayStation combat-card PDFs to backers. Deluxe editions also include strategy booklets. This page covers the same input ideas.

Why do my specials not come out?

Empty blue meter, analog stick drift, or a sloppy motion. Use the D-pad and read combat.

Can two players use one keyboard?

No. Co-op is local split-screen with two pads.
